"A Complete Analysis on Birthmarks"

A number of babies are born with what are called birthmarks as they may be on the baby's skin when the baby is born or appear in the first four weeks after birth. Most birthmarks are harmless and are not hereditary. Birthmarks have been categorized and can have different colors brown, tan, black, blue, pink, red or white. Some are just patches on the skin and others can be raised above the skin. Some birthmarks fade away with age others get covered with hair and others remain. If a birthmark remains like on the face people get them removed. Nowadays laser surgery or cosmetic surgery like skin grafting is done to remove birthmarks. How exactly and why are birthmarks formed no one knows for sure but there are different theories related to birthmarks formation. There are some interesting facts to note about birthmarks. Twice as many females to males have birthmarks. Fair skinned people are prone to having more vascular birthmarks then Asians and Africans. Vascular birthmarks are a gathering of tiny blood vessels and grow after birth. The most common in this category is called a strawberry birthmark and it is a tiny red, soft elevation on the skin. This type of birthmark usually disappears by the time the child is 10 years old.
Stork bites, angel's kiss or salmon's bite as it is commonly called is a birthmark that appears as a red small mark on the nape of the neck, forehead or eyelids and usually disappears before a child turns 1. The most noticeable birthmark is the port wine stain birth mark and if it is on the face people get it removed as it can be disfiguring. Then there are large red blue benign tumors that grow as the child grows. These are harmless but some people choose to get them removed.

Then there are those birthmarks that are caused by the skin's pigmentation as brown or tan patches and are called café-au-lait patch and can be in all color and sizes and anywhere on the body. Moles are the most common type of birthmarks and can be anywhere on the body.

There are various myths about birthmarks in different parts of the world and what are their meanings. Some myths believe that the birthmark's shape may be a sign of good fortune or a curse. Another myth says that birthmarks are formed if a pregnant mother's wish is not fulfilled. But as said birth marks and their meanings are myths which are taken seriously by some races and laughed off by others.

Some people also have a brain birthmark and this is a birthmark on the brain and can cause epileptic fits and seizures. Usually a child may have a birthmark on the skin also who has a brain birthmark. The brain birthmark is dangerous and has to be removed.

Most birthmarks disappear with age and some that don’t, some people choose to have laser treatment for removal of birthmarks. But there are birthmarks that may temporarily disappear with laser treatment and then reappear. If one wants to get a birthmark permanently removed one needs to consult a dermatologist and based on their opinion have the birthmark removed. Although most birthmarks are harmless and some may even take up to 50 years to disappear but one should get the birthmark checked to make sure that it is benign and if it is and does not cause any disfiguration it may not be removed.

There is no known reason as why birthmarks are more common in fair skinned people then in darker colored people and what causes them. But only some birthmarks can be harmful and require to be removed the others usually don’t need any treatment. In fact there is no treatment for birthmarks removal and one can either have surgery, laser treatment or just let them be.
